Women need these words, too.
As I get ready to post this and share it with my social media network, I’m a little apprehensive that some of the men in my circle may be tired of me posting about women’s equality. I’ve been doing a lot of that lately. Some of the activation I feel is coming from my recent attendance at the Washington-Oregon joint AAUW convention; get 200 women in a room for a day and you’ll hear all kinds of stories that fire up the frustration. Some of my focus comes from an hour call I did today with a researcher on women and technology. Some from the ARA Seattle event.
The truth is my male friends want women and girls to have their turn at the microphone. They want women and girls to be successful, respected and advanced in their vocations and avocations. They want women to have their dreams come true because they want PEOPLE to have their dreams come true.
However … it doesn’t mean some of the situations described in the article “10 Simple Words Every Girl Should Learn” haven’t happened to me and to most of the women I know. This article reminds me to be thoughtful about my interactions and be respectful to everyone, including the women and girls.
